Description
This is a photo of Grand Geyser in Yellowstone National Park with a faint rainbow taken August 2013. My husband and I had to wait over an hour for this geyser to errupt. We didn't know what to expect but there was a large crowd of people waiting so we figured it would be good. Grand Geyser erupts every 7 to 15 hours. It belongs to the Grand Group, and its eruption is connected to those of the other geysers in the group, especially the adjacent Vent Geyser and Turban Geyser. Grand's fountain reaches a height of as much as 200 feet (61 m), with a duration of 9 to 12 minutes. Its eruptions occur in a series of 1 to 4 (rarely as many as 5) bursts. (Courtesy of Wikipedia) We got to see 2 erruptions in a row. A ranger yelled don't leave because he knew it would errupt again. He also said it would shoot way above the trees, but we didn't believe it until we saw it. Please see my Yellowstone Gallery for more images of Grand Geyser and more images taken in the park.
